SHAPESHIFTERS
animorphs, gooooo!
Shapeshifters are humans with an incredible ability – the ability to shift into the form of an animal, taking on their strengths, weaknesses and senses. Their shifting ability is limited to only animals, and only animals they have seen. Their powers are greatly influence by emotion, and they are known to shift at sudden or intense feelings.
Typically they have a favoured form, be it one particular animal or a certain family of animals, like a feline shifter, or a reptilian shifter. As with most things, practice makes perfect, and shifting is easier when he/she has preformed the shift before. The more familiar they are with the animal, the faster and simpler the shift.
Even while in human form, shapeshifters retain heightened, animal-like senses. They have acute hearing, sensitive noises, sharp eyesight and an animal instinct that can be difficult for them to ignore. Young shifters are often overcome with instinct, acting erratically when faced with a confusing emotion, or shifting into the preferred form when startled.
A shapeshifter's abilities are passed down through their genes, but for whatever reason this gene only carries into the first born child.
» SHAPESHIFTING PUBERTY.
Shapeshifting powers don't surface until puberty, and there are a series of signs/symptoms before a shapeshifter undergoes his/her first shift, and it is generally into an animal they are fond of or close to.
» He/she will go through a phase of violent mood swings. They can get aggressive and short-tempered, and flop instantly back to withdrawn and depressed. They are stuck in a period of extremes, and are often overly emotional and unstable.
» Unusual changes in eye colour
» Sharpened teeth or rapidly growing hair and fingernails.
» Hypersensitivity to light and sound
» Aching muscles
» Headaches
» STRENGTHS.
» Shapeshifters retain their animal senses, even when in human form.
» Shapeshifters become the animal they shift into. While they retain their mental sense (assuming they have control) they gain the senses and strengths of the animal in question.
» Shapeshifters are often a bit quicker than the average human
» They retain an animal instinct at all times
» Heightened reaction times
» The Shapeshifting gene prevents Vampirism
» WEAKNESSES.
» The Shapeshifting is governed heavily by emotion. A strong or overwhelming feeling can trigger an involuntary shift.
» Sensitive eyes and ears can double as a weakness, as it's not something that can be turned off. Bright lights and loud sounds will affect them more than ordinary humans.
» Some shifters are limited to animals they are heavily familiar with, or can only shift into a certain type of animal, as stated above -- only felines, canines, reptiles, etc.
» Young shifters are prone to losing themselves in animal instinct, especially when emotional.
» The Shifter gene does not prevent Lycanthropy
