DEMONS

A demon or daemon is a fiendish, often malevolent spirit whom's soul has been corrupted and darkened enough so that they would never be accepted into the gates of Heaven beyond or any manner of light eternal after a mortal death. They are ancient creatures who've been around since the beginning of time; filling in the balance of dark to where angels are light. Above all else, they are known to crave power, chaos and freedom to the point of becoming the very bane to human existence itself.
» HELL AND THE DEMON REALM.
Note that these two places are two vastly different areas themselves. Hell being the place of which all demons and lost, fallen souls are cast into and NO ONE wants to stay within. Dark, foul creatures and all manner of happenstance and torment fall prey to those souls trapped within and only certain stronger more substinent beings have managed the power to pull themselves up to what the demons created themselves in order to have some semblence of home.
This Demon Realm is divided into nine different layers and each of them is ruled by an Archdemon that commands their territory as they see fit. The layers themselves vary in terrain, energy, substance and power; however all are vastly known to be thought of as barren wastelands (that get wifi?). Again, not a very good place to live for our baddies is it? Though they stay largely because they can keep comfort in their natural, truest form with all their powers---this isn't a place to sustain them entirely.
In turn, all demons are commanded by certain urges for freedom into the worlds beyond and outside.
» ORIGINS/CREATED.
» Fallen Angel---> falling.
The very first two demons were Fallen Angels; Lucifer and Abaddon, cast out of Heaven for rebelling against their Creator. Angels today can still fall in this effect but rest assured it is incredibly rare.
» Created---> started out this way.
Occasionally demons just seem to appear out of the void, that's largely because they are occasionally created from spare energy floating in the abyss by either Lucifer or Abaddon, these two are the only demons that possess this ability to create demons from the spare energy. They rarely do this anymore, but they are still very capable of this should they need to.
» Deal Making---> turning.
Humans have at times made deals with demons in order to become one themselves. There is always a pretty hefty sum of course in which to pay for such a deal and you never know how 'jipped' you're going to be by one of those sneaky buggers. Demons of this regard shouldn't be as powerful therefore than a natural demon.
» "Mating"---> pregnancy with a twist.
Unlike traditional human pregnancy, which if you don't know please consult google or mom or dad, during the "do" the female demon can steal or in some cases take with the male having knowledge of it, a small or large amount of energy from her partner. After the deed is done, rather than her swelling up with baby belly for a few months she takes the energy she stole and some of her own to the pits and with a little of that unstable demon energy that sometimes spews random creatures forth she combines the energies. The mother and father energies give the child characteristics of the parents while the energy from the pit ultimately gives them life. They come to be in their true forms, and then must find a vessel.
» TYPES OF DEMONS.
» Archdemon
A demon lord of the nine realms that commands a court of demons under them. Generally stronger than your average demon.
» Succubus/Incubus
A demon of desire that has the added power of Dream Walking into a mortals sleep to thereby tempt them with sexual desires.
» Obelisk
A demon of containment, largely the opposite of an angel of death--they store souls and farry them to hell or to their Archdemon lord. These souls are stored within their bodies, the only added ability they contain.
» Nightmare
A demon of dreams and nightmares, also holding the added ability of Dream Walking in order to tempt or corrupt or fairly upset their mortal hosts into doing darker deeds or deals for them.
» Hell Hound
A demon whose sole purpose is to guard certain gateways and maintain the order for whatever Archdemon lord they happen to be under and their realm. Their truest forms are generally some semblance of canine origin.
» Sins
Though these are not technically a subspecie, but more just a group of demons bearing certain powers, the origin of these demons is unknown. It really is not something that is talked about or passed down, all we know now is that the only way to take control over a sin is to kill the other demon and absorb their soul or have them give it up willingly. Each of the seven will be able to influence others with the powers of their sins.

Unintelligible, weak demonic creatures whom hold no great willpower or strength to leave Hell on their own. They must be summoned up by a higher level demon and thus are often used as minions to do small menial tasks. They can slip through the boundaries of the demon realm to mortal plane if called by their master but only a small handfull at a time. They must remain in the same few feet of their Master and cannot physically cause much harm given their size and strength (still fun to order around to do things for them though).

The hierarchy of hell is a bit tricky. There really is not a true ruler over all of Hell as there is over Heaven, though several older demons have started staking claim to things they want for themselves. For a while, Lucifer has been perceived as the king of Hell but there seems to be some dissention in the ranks and some demons seem to be striking out on their own to start their own ‘kingdoms’ leaving those who had presently been following the only ruler they'd ever known to decide where their loyalties really lie.
ASK AN ADMIN IF YOU WANT TO CREATE A ROYAL/ARCHDEMON OR PROMOTE YOUR DEMON.
Most demons have no rank or title, and just kind of mill around the demon realm as they please. At the bottom of the social ladder are the imps, which are more or less an extension of a demon's will and not exactly sentient, just mindless slaves (refer to the types of demons above for their uses).
» EARTH FOR DEMONS.
We already went over their own hellish conditions of living, no? OF COURSE THEY WANT TO MIGRATE UP THEN and there are even these fumbling little, weakling meatsacks walking about you can toy with and break and maybe even consume, so of course we know where a demon wants to be.
THE.PROBLEM.WITH.IT.THOUGH
Demons and their natural forms are much too strong and powerful to be brought to the mortal plane on whim and this is no different for their light-wielding angelic counterparts. They cannot keep a physical form by such means---they manifest in a spiritual form. Thereby, they cannot physically harm or touch or bother with another being there and cannot maintain even this such form for long before having to resort to returning to the Demon Realm. They can influence and tempt and speak and talk or haunt mortals but physically doing anything with them is impossible without a body.
THE.SOLUTION
So they get a body. In possession of a mortal's body they will have free reign over all of their demon powers.
» Possession
Demons can possess another's body in several instances: within a deal, especially one that has been broken by their lesser, when someone summoning them has stepped over and broken their circle, when sweet-talking an idiot mortal into it or they can force the possession themselves (the most common).
***special note: when possessing the body of a super, you do not gain the powers or weaknesses of their particular species. A possessed were will not be able to transform, a possessed vampire will not need to drink blood, a possessed witch will not give the powers of a witch to the demon. When possessing another, the demons power is all there is.

CONSENTING --// a rarer occurrence but completely possible. This vessel is less likely to wear and can be used and taken everywhere, this is a ideal thing to get when in a deal with someone. NEVER GIVE THE BODY BACK!
NONCONSENTING --// most common form of possession for a demon and can be accomplished many different ways when the demon's spiritual form has entered their host. This is especially easier to do when the host is sleeping. A demonic parasitic soul however will fight for dominance over its lesser and the more use of the demon's powers when within this host will drain the life from it. This kind of possession thusly lasts little more from a few days to a few months.
Possession can only be cured when the demon leaves either willfully, the demon is forcefully bound to an inanimate object (which is then stuck in forever unless the object is opened or broken) or through the art of exorcism; in which whole manner of incantation and prayer becomes your best friend.
When possessing a body the demon can either choose to look like their actual host or (because they have full reign of their powers again) they can revert and shift into whomever they so chose--even their natural form.
» Deal making
Deals are made with mortals in order to generally gain power, souls, or a place on the mortal plane. Demons will find they can not make deals for themselves and in some instances cannot offer a mortal everything within one. Largely they are bitter and deceitful creatures anyways and will twist the deals to their own benefit in order to trap their mortal prey.
» Summonings
A name for a demon is POWER and with it also comes a cost. A mortal can call their full name to summon them to the mortal plane and thusly give them the freedom they want to roam about with their full powers. If they are summoned without a circle they will have their full physical form and power. And they will likely have no qualms of gobbling your stupid ass up -SO BE WARNED TO CALL THEM ONLY INTO A CIRCLE. But in turn for knowing their true name, some witches hold the power and know the spells to use it to hold sway and control over said demon (demons be warned in whom learns your name).

SUMMONING CIRCLES --// a summon circle can be made by any form you can write or draw it with and the instructions on the glyphs and wards in order to make it can be found literally anywhere now: old books, spellbooks, cryptic hieroglyphics, etc. It takes great discipline and focus in order to summon a demon however, be mindful that once in the circle they have full control of their powers within and may take the form of something you care for or know in order to trick for their freedom. They cannot perform their powers outside of the circle though, mind you but in calling them you have linked them to you to have the power to cross over and if you should accidentally step or break such a circle---your body is free for theirs in order to take and possess. Note that a summoning circle is a temperary bind for a demon though. If they are not given instruction or their name readily used within an hour, they can leave it as they please back to return to the Demon Realm. AND YOU STUPIDLY MADE THEM AWARE OF YOU (if you dropped your own name accidentally? OH GOD YOU'RE SCREWED!)
» Souls
This is something demons all crave and they use it little more than like currency with one another. There are three ways of which they are used to hold and lend more power to them.

CONSUME --// consuming a soul adds to a demons power but in turn the host without a soul now will promptly die.
POSSESS --// owning someone's soul means you own their body and at any given time the demon could choose to possess said body as their own.
CONTROL --// a good deal of demons find pleasure in just breaking and toying with their souls though. They hold them as slaves by owning their soul and control them as they please.
» APPEARANCE.
Demons are natural born shapeshifters given they are little more than corrupted dark spirits themselves so they can change into anything they please. However they generally have two major forms they toggle about within.
» Demon/True Form
This is their natural demon form and while it's generally humanoid, the sky is the limit for whatever design you wish. It is the form they are born/created with and cannot be altered. Parts of their demon form can also show through when they're in their human form, but this is not a natural or comfortable state for them to maintain. Generally we're talking tails, horns, fur, claws, extra heads and the like!
» Human Form
This can be anywhere from their most favored human they ever possessed, the person that influenced or gave them the most fun before they killed them on Earth down to their own original human form's face if they were ever once mortal. This is the preferred form to show when summoned or in another mortal's presence given it calms them.
» POWERS.
» Immortality:
Demons live forever. They heal instantly and it's pretty damn hard to kill them. Most mundane methods won't kill them. However, don't make the mistake of thinking that demons can't be killed, because they do have some weaknesses.
» Psychic Immunity:
Demons cannot have their minds read with the exception of *telepathic demons (exceptionally rare).
» Superstrength:
While in human form, they are unfortunately subject to some human limitations: most mortals are not built for super strength, their little bones and muscles can't take the pressure. In order for a demon to tap into their super strength, they MUST be in DEMON FORM.
» Superstamina:
Demons are hard to tire out and don't need food, but they may indulge in eating and sleeping as they wish.
» Extra Awareness:
Demons can sense if an individual is close by. They will also automatically know what species they are. They cannot be any more specific than that, i.e. they can't tell gender, age, mood and so on.
» Shapeshifting:
See Appearance above. They can appear as anything or anyone they wish but it takes up some of their focus and energy to maintain an unnatural state.

Creating something out of nothing. There is a limit to this, they cannot suddenly conjure up a huge house or even a car. Generally the rule is something that they can conjure into their hand, something that they can hold. They cannot summon things (bring something that already exists) either unless in a deal.
»Telekinesis:
Demons are capable of moving objects with their minds, though typically this is limited to items around or under their own mass, and holding something heavy can be straining.
»Pyrokinesis:
Creating and controlling fire.
*Telepathy: Some demons can read the minds of others. This is exceptionally rare and tends to be reserved for the oldest of the demons.
» WEAKNESSES.
» Lying
Demons are unable to lie, thus they must choose their words carefully. They can lie by omission (not revealing the truth) , state what they believe to be true even if it is false or only their opinion, and tell half-truths. But they cannot say something that they know to be false.
» Beheading
BOOM! Headshot! This is one of the most easiest ways to kill a demon. In theory.
» Religion
Demons can't walk on holy grounds. Similarly, they also can't listen to bible verses or religious phrases if said by someone who is a true believer, and it has to be quotes from their religion. A Jewish person can't start quoting the Christian bible and expect it to hurt a demon. Any prayers or incantations to ward off evil should work.
» Holy Water
This burns their flesh, and if ingested or injected with a large amount of it can cause severe damage or even kill them. But they would have to have ingested/been injected with a very large amount of holy water, and very quickly for them to be at risk of dying.
» Angel Blades
Human weapons have no effect on demons. Only a blade forged from angel light can injure them. If stabbed somewhere vital or beheaded with an angel blade, they will die.
» Salt
It's not harmful to them, but they can't cross a line or circle made with salt. Good for protecting houses, etc.
» Chocolate
Demons have a fondness for chocolate, which can rapidly turn into an addiction. They may even ask for it in deals. It tends to make them go a little loopy, like a kitty on catnip, relaxes them and makes them happier.

A Jewish person can't start quoting the Christian bible and expect it to hurt a demon. Any prayers or incantations to ward off evil should work.
» Holy Water
This burns their flesh, and if ingested or injected with a large amount of it can cause severe damage or even kill them. But they would have to have ingested/been injected with a very large amount of holy water, and very quickly for them to be at risk of dying.
» Angel Blades
Human weapons have no effect on demons. Only a blade forged from angel light can injure them. If stabbed somewhere vital or beheaded with an angel blade, they will die.
» Salt
It's not harmful to them, but they can't cross a line or circle made with salt. Good for protecting houses, etc.
» Chocolate
Demons have a fondness for chocolate, which can rapidly turn into an addiction. They may even ask for it in deals. It tends to make them go a little loopy, like a kitty on catnip, relaxes them and makes them happier.
